You will get acquainted with the culture and customs in Župa dubrovačka, visit archeological sites from the Iron Age and Illyrian period, see the buildings damaged in the recent war in Croatia (former hotel complex in Kupari), meet the local writer and visit the locations from his novel (beautiful churches, aristocratic summer villa...), meet local enterpreuners and taste local specialties.

Description

The first stop follows shortly after departure from your hotel. From the belvedere above Dubrovnik you will have the opportunity to take beautiful photos and enjoy the fascinating view of Dubrovnik Old Town, the Adriatic Sea and the nearby islands. This is followed by a drive to to an archeological site from the Iron Age and the time when the Illyrian tribes lived in this area.
You'll meet local archeologist who will tell you more about the life and culture of the people who lived here thousands of years ago.
This fascinating journey into the distant past is followed by a journey into the recent past that took place thirty years ago. Namely, you will visit the former hotel complex in the Kupari settlement, which was severely damaged during the Homeland War in the 1990s. You will see damaged buildings and the guide will tell you the story of the breakup of Yugoslavia, the attack of the Yugoslav People's Army on Croatia, the war in the Dubrovnik area... After an exciting journey through Croatia's past, you'll have a short break in Srebreno, the central part of this municipality. There is a shopping center, promenade and numerous cafes where you can spend your free time.  This is followed by a drive to the village of Mlini. There you will be welcomed by a local writer who found inspiration for his novel "The Third Key" in the history of Dubrovnik. Much of the novel takes place in Mlini, with a special emphasis on the Bettera summer villa. The author of the book will take you to the journey into the Renaissance and Baroque periods in the Dubrovnik area. He will show you the most important sites in the village, revealing their fascinating stories and legends as well as the notable figures who shaped its story. For book worms the tour is the perfect opportunity to take a deeper dive into Mezei’s novel as Mlini served as the inspiration and setting for much of his second book.
The next activity is a meeting with local entrepreneurs who keep the tradition (old crafts, farmers ...) and from them you will learn more details about local customs and culture. This will be followed by dinner with traditional Dubrovnik specialties in a restaurant in Župa dubrovačka and return to the hotel.
